Another version of the JP-4. These were aimed directly at the SC 210/220 and do it better in just about every way. The variable V-belt may have been something in 1957, but it is a limiter for SC by the late 60s. By the time this one rolls out, they are going for the SC 2200 lineup. Note how the top covers are very similar.
The Brother build is top-notch, but there is one issue I have run into. The power roller emits a loud whine in the shift cam area. I was very curious what this 73 model would do. There is a note on the main page for "modified" JP-4s. Without taking the power roller apart and laying the parts side by side, the shift cam on this one looks different. And the machine runs quietly. Was this the modification?
This one had been bumped around some and someone tried to pry the top cover off without removing the lower screws. Ugg! Otherwise, an easy clean and service.
