Description:
Hands down the Linea 98 is the best performing Olivetti standard I've ever used - in part because it was built at the Underwood plant in Toronto.
The machine might look like it was designed by committee, one in the throes of an acid trip, but it really works. Beyond daring, the Linea was an unabashed statement, an extroverted attempt to spice up the design of standard typewriters that too often were staid and sullen in appearance.
This particular machine was originally purchased by Canada Post for use in its head office, which in itself is a strange bit of history. Government run offices aren't known for having brave aesthetics, so I imagine that when this avant-garde machine was first placed on a typist's desk it must have caused quite a stir.
