Description:
The same Silver Seiko mechanism in the Royal Apollo machines.
By 1970, Smith Corona had spent the decade dominating the consumer market, with dealers, JCPenney, and the big boy Sears; they had an unrivaled market penetration. Did they realize in 1972 that the ground was shifting under them? This one would be hard to miss, as Sears just kept the Electric 12 name with this Silver Seiko.
This example was used hard. The belt was loose and struggled to drive the power roller. A bit of heat shrink on the motor pulley took care of that.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Sears Electric 12 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Sears Serial Number page and the Sears Electric 12 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
