1970 Olympia Traveller de Luxe Serial # 15-2082o41 1970 Olympia Traveller de Luxe typewriter, Serial # 15-2082o41 Jerry Himes's 1970 Olympia Traveller de Luxe typewriter. 2024-10-02 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Jerry Himes: 1970 Olympia Traveller de Luxe Serial # 15-2082o41 An early Traveller de Luxe made in West Germany. Sadly relegated to a parts/practice machine. The margin stops have gone missing and some of the type bars get violently stuck into the type guide, the silent carriage return doesn't work and the plastic of the carriage release lever is cracked. Now it also has a platen from my orange Yugoslavian Traveller de Luxe, which has broken mating threads on the right side screw hole; this renders the machine pretty much inoperable. I still have to retrieve the linkage for the letter O, as that is bent on my orange, otherwise better working Traveller.

Might get fixed some day if I happen upon a cosmetically bad parts machine.

I have been looking for ways to spend less time on electronic devices, and because of this I started doing my writing and translation work with pens and pencils, and now on typewriters as well. I have noticed that adding typewriters to the process has been beneficial to the quality of the text, plus it's just more fun this way.

I have started selling and giving away some of my machines now that I have figured out which ones I want to keep. Some people have asked me for working typewriters, so I have been on the lookout for machines purely for that purpose as well. As fun and instructive as it has been, soon it is time to finish this collecting and tinkering and move back to my original intention: writing. I hope.
