Made in Japan by Konryu Corporation and sold by "Western Stamping Corporation". This machine is certainly is terrible to type on, but it seems aimed at the student market. There is no carriage return lever - you manually return the carriage and advance the line using the carriage knob.
This looks like the non-deluxe version of the one shown in 1970 Montgomery Ward Christmas Catalog (see gallery)
Hunter: Ted Munk (munk)
I am a scoundrel without a cause, and my swank outshines the sun.
I am a casual Typewriter Hunter residing in the sweltering deserts of Arizona with a wife, three cats and about 40 typewriters. My main hunting ground is thrift stores, and I rarely pay more than $10 for a machine.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Konryu Collegiate on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Konryu Serial Number page and the Konryu Collegiate By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
