1970 IBM Model D Executive Serial # 8428646 1970 IBM Model D Executive typewriter, Serial # 8428646 Lupo Cuore's 1970 IBM Model D Executive typewriter. 2022-09-24 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Lupo Cuore: 1970 IBM Model D Executive Serial # 8428646 I bought this red beauty locally from a retired MIT professor. He was partners with another MIT professor who recently passed away, and so the typewriters were being sold as part of the estate the professor's relatives didn't want, just the cash for it. So this one and a green C Executive (and a Royal Medallion II as a throwin) came home with me. It's taken some work to get to the point it's mostly working, but there's a nagging problem with the spacebars where the cams and linkages don't fully return, making a rattling noise, but I'm sure I'll have it figured out soon. Least I could do for the late owner.

I love the effects you can do with the Executive's proportional type, and since the D shares the Selectric's keyboard, it feels great to type on. As another collector (whose nameI can't recall) said, this is a writer's typewriter.
