Description:
A nifty Corsair variant. 1969 is my best guess with the relatively low serial.
One wonders if all the Cougar XLs were script. It's possible I suppose. The racing stripe on the case, which I thought was done by its owner, must have been factory as Dr. Poly's example has it as well. All in all a nice example of what I think of as "the quintessential cute American plastic Typewriter of the late 1960's and early 1970's (tm)" :). I suspect the racing stripes made this an alternative to the Super G.

A lover of the written word, I was bitten by the typewriter bug at the beginning of 2019 when I embarked on a Joyful Odyssey to track down a vintage Olympia SM 7/8/9, (I didn't know the model number at the time) that my mother had owned and which I had used to type my college applications in the late 1980's. I have acquired quite a number since, and have enjoyed learning about the history, mechanics, and true variety of these machines.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Cougar XL on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Cougar XL By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
