1969 IBM Selectric Composer Serial # 5022167 1969 IBM Selectric Composer typewriter, Serial # 5022167 Erik Bruchez's 1969 IBM Selectric Composer typewriter. 2024-07-04 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Erik Bruchez: 1969 IBM Selectric Composer Serial # 5022167 This is a modified Selectric Composer used as part of an MT/ST Composer station. An obvious modification is that underneath are hooks that allow the Composer Console to control the Composer.

The label on the bottom says "Selectric Composer" and "Model 615".

Based on Ted's modified Composer, this should be usable independently from the Composer Console:

The date is probably 1969 as the machine was put in service that year based on service records.

This came with a box of 18 type elements (including a regular Selectric element), plus one on the machine itself.

I started collecting my first pre-WW2 standard typewriters in 2017. Since then I have added a few machines to my collection, which now ranges from the 1880s to the 1980s. As of 2024, I have more big standard (desktop) typewriters than portables, a few standard electrics, and some unusual machines like Varitypers, uncommon IBM machines, and more. I am not a pro restorer, but I have restored a few of my machines beyond simple cleaning.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Selectric Composer on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Selectric Composer By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
