Description:
I found this typewriter in Taipei, Taiwan. When I got it, it was in very rough condition. There was no case, it was missing a few screws, all of the body panels were heavily rusted, all of the keys would stick, etc. However, it seemed to be capable of working correctly with a bit of attention. With some determined cleaning and a few adjustments here and there, the keys once again worked properly. Everything else, internally, already functioned properly. The most time consuming part of this project was stripping the body panels and repainting them. I was worried about damaging anything that was intended to stay original, so the process was a delicate one. However, it was well worth it. With some patience and a little love, this machine is back to full working order and it is actually very nice to type on. The line spacing is perfect, the alignment is pretty good, the feed mechanism and rollers work very well and it is actually pretty surprising how easy it is to load a sheet of paper and get it straight without much effort. I now own a few of these old Splendid machines and I highly recommend them. It is easy to see why they are so popular. Tough, reliable, well made, good looks, and nice to type on. You can't ask for much more than that.

My name is Skyler and I live in Taiwan. I am a Demolition Engineer & Metal Fabricator by day and I typically keep myself as busy as possible with various projects and hobbies when not at work. I have lived in Taiwan for ten years and have discovered that there are actually quite a few typewriters to be found here. What is especially interesting about this fact is that, being that this is Asia, typewriters never had the same uses or popularity that they did in the west. So finding so many is quite surprising. Because they were all imported or brought in when returning from overseas trips, there is a very wide variety available. I have actually seen many typewriters that I have never seen mentioned or listed on the TWDB, which is part of why I wanted to join and become a "Typewriter Hunter", as I would like to fill in some of the gaps.
I collect and repair typewriters, as well, though I am still new to it. So, I would love discussions, tips, and advice related to that.
