Description:
I had always wondered what the hype was about Hermes, and I have a Rocket downstairs with a broken escapement collecting dust, so I didn't get the chance to type on one until I saw this in a thrift store a year or so ago. It had the cover caved in, which also caved in the top-piece and caused some damage to the body. The platen was mis-aligned, and it was unable to type. So I bought it for $10, and went to work. It still has cosmetic damage, but it has converted me. It is by far my favourite machine to type on. Like buttahh...

I have been collecting typewriters all my life, starting with a 1980's Brother Charger 11 (which I no longer have, but have replaced with an identical machine). I have well over 60 typewriters now, with a few rare portables. Some are interesting or odd, but most of mine are common machines.
My wife and I have made a deal, that I can keep buying typewriters if she can keep buying shoes. Fair enough! *shrugs*
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes 3000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes 3000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
