Description:
I am reasonable confident this is a 1966 rather than a 1976 as the keys changed over to black in 1974/75. The Opus 888 is not mentioned in the database until 1967. However, the "L" prefix to the serial number tells us November, so pretty safe thinking a November 1966 is realistic.

I started my collection back in 2017 when I found a 1993 Brother WP-1250, which was very close to the typewriter I owned and used to write letters home while I was stationed in Korea serving in the US Air Force (I later discovered it was most likely the Brother WP-1150, so I picked that up). In 2018, my wife took me to one of the local antique store and I saw an old typewriter that caught my eye. My wife purchased it for me for Christmas (a 1932 Royal 10). My wife and I decided to limit my collection to 5 typewriters, so I need to sell off my surplus.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brother Opus 888 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brother Serial Number page and the Brother Opus 888 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
