I obtained this typewriter from a local antiques shop. It is in excellent condition and no cleaning was required, however the red margin indicator was not working as the red ribbon had torn and was hanging loose. Fortunately, Duane from Phoenix Typewriter, had a most excellent tutorial for repairing this feature and using Ted Munk's Hermes 3000 Repair Bible as a reference, I was able to fix! Two thumbs up!

I wonder how this typewriter made it from New Jersey and Texas and ended up here in yyc...

I bought a typewriter for the sole purpose of journaling and writing with no thought given to working on them as a hobby. On a whim, I purchased a second typewriter, which I knew needed some cleaning and adjustment. I discovered that this exercise took me back to simpler times when I maintained electromechanical switching equipment in my early days of telephony.


Typewriters: a collection of complex Rube Goldberg contraptions that collectively perform a simple function, to put ink to paper. How wonderful is that?
