Description:
We were so excited when we found this on Facebook marketplace. We drove down to Ames, IA and we dismayed when we found what we have read about Facit's. It was totally frozen. I wasn't even sure the escapement worked as the typebars didn't raise and the spacebar did nothing. We eventually talked the lady that sold us the typewriter down to $26 after I saw a glimmer of hope that the backspace moved the carriage. After taking it home and removing it from the body my wife and I spent about 5 to 6 hours with Naptha, Lacquer Thinner, and finally Seafoam penetrating oil and a space heater to free the Facit's escapement, type bars and ribbon spools. I'm just shocked by the transformation from one of the most locked up and stuck typewriters I have every seen to one of the best typewriters we have alongside our Olympia SM-9 or Olivetti 32.
The unique tabulator on this typewriter is just the cherry on top, with single tab add and removal and setting several set tabs and the ability to remove all tabs at once.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Facit TP1 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Facit Serial Number page and the Facit TP1 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
