Description:
This 1964 Smith Corona Corsair is off to the parts department. Another donation to Dominion Business Machines. A second typewriter left behind from the collection of an estate sale that cured me from buying typewriters from estate sales. At first this little plastic molded machine was going to survive and be used up north as a summer typewriter. Cutting down the collection of the haves and have nots. I've decided to set this Corsair free.
I typed on the machine for a few minutes, the plastic parts rattled and the body shook at every keystroke. Dust filled every crevice and I wiped below the carriage with my thumb to discover the serial number.
There is an odd numbering system on this machine compared to the wonderful Typewriter Database's Smith Corona serial numbers. I've chosen the year of manufacture as 1964 as the 6Y series begins in that year at 200001. The serial number for this typewriter is 6Y141923Z. I hope I am correct in this date of manufacture.

I purchased my first typewriter in 2000: Brother Pro-Line 707 built in 1969.
I wrote eight hours a day, seven days a week on that tiny machine. I wrote my first unpublished novel and hundreds of short stories on the Brother.
In 2020 I decided to purchase my second typewriter. At ten and counting, I still use and collect these amazing tools for writing.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Corsair on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Corsair By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
