1962 Hermes 3000 Serial # 3156598 1962 Hermes 3000 typewriter, Serial # 3156598 Uwe Wachtendorf's 1962 Hermes 3000 typewriter. 2014-06-19 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Uwe Wachtendorf: 1962 Hermes 3000 Serial # 3156598 Raise your hand if you have one of these. That's what I thought. Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with the 3000; I love its design and type action, but hate working on the thing. The ribbon system and its numerous pulleys and springs that are used to indicate the location of the margin stops is just one example of how over-engineered this typewriter is. There's no arguing its brilliance and relevance in the history of typewriters, but it's also a prime example of why the less-is-more design philosophy exists.
