Description:
My absolute favorite typewriter, which helps to explain why I have seven of them.
I wonder how many people realize that there is often three different serial numbers on the machine? One for the main frame of the machine (which you have to remove the carriage to find), one for the carriage (on its underside), and one on the carriage rail (see photo).
Since Olympia had many different optional carriage widths available it would seem pointless to use carriage numbers to try and date the machine, which is why I always use the one stamped on the frame itself.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olympia SG1 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olympia Serial Number page and the Olympia SG1 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
