Description:
This Olivetti Lettera 22 was part of a refurbishing job that I was given. I am personally not a huge fan of Olivetti, mainly because I have dislike for their feel of operation and certain mechanical designs, such as the Screw-in platen-knobs and the torsion spring that is hidden within the frame-plate on the left-hand side of the carriage, which operates the carriage-return arm. However, mechanically as well as aesthetically, this typewriter appears to be in good condition. It was dropped at some time and never fixed from that fall. Upon inspection, I discovered that the "U"-bar was out of alignment and that the locking nut had broken. I replaced that and adjusted the bar back to it's factory specifications and the typewriter immediately worked flawlessly. Luckily, the screw-in platen knobs came out without too much hassle. On previous Lettera 22's, I have fought and fought for hours to remove those, but on this particular one they were relatively unjammed. Aside from the dent in the back, the typewriter works flawless and comes with it's original case. The typewriter was missing one of it's spool nuts but I happen to have one from a Lettera 22 that I used for parts some years ago, so that was replaced.
