Description:
Another machine found locally. It was in pretty rough shape when I got it. The case and body had been bent and didn't latch properly and the machine was filthy. It cleaned up reasonably well, though I had to re-shape quite a few pieces of the aluminum foil Hermes called body panels.
It's still missing the right-hand platen knob and all it's feet and I need to clean the slugs.. You can definitely still see the Hermes Seafoam Green color through the grime and wear, though, and Hermes were very proud of the fact that this machine was made in Switzerland. They tell you no fewer than four times!
Mechanically it seems fine and types as well as you'd expect an extremely lightweight little machine like this to type. Personally, I find it tinny and a bit sluggish to type on, but perhaps that's just due to condition.
Typeface is 4 characters per CM, or just slightly smaller than 10 CPI and labeled either SII6 or S116.

I'm a newbie and amateur typewriter "collector" in Memphis, TN. I have a small collection I hope to expand in time.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hermes Rocket on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hermes Serial Number page and the Hermes Rocket By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
