1960 Torpedo Dynamic S Serial # 2000464 1960 Torpedo Dynamic S typewriter, Serial # 2000464 Aaron Friedrich Lotar Rolf Klamp's 1960 Torpedo Dynamic S typewriter. 2025-07-28 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Aaron Friedrich Lotar Rolf Klamp: 1960 Torpedo Dynamic S Serial # 2000464 Sometimes collecting means putting personal likes and dislikes aside as a sacrifice for the cause, and this Torpedo was such a sacrifice.

It has accompanied me for over half a decade now, longer than many other typewriters.
A friend, a Judo world champion, found it in his house along with others and gifted them to me.
My kind of obsession was still in its beginning back then, and my skills and knowledge were unequal to my inflamed curiosity. As with many typewriters, I endeavored to that point, and I quickly realized that the drawband was ripped, and that the tabulator rods dangled freely on the underside.

So I bought a wide fabric band in a small shop that only sold textiles (I also found a red band for the Hermes 3000 margin indicator), installed it, and refitted the rods into their guides as well.

But to my disappointment, the „Dynamic S“ didn’t show any of this after that small surgery, so I left it aside for the moment, as I couldn’t make anything out of it. My focus soon switched to other purchases.

Time passed, and more time passed, during which I occasionally thought about what to do with this stranded project. It only started to become complicated when I realized the early serial number and that the name „Dynamic S“ is not known on the internet.
It was complicated in the sense that a non-functional standard typewriter wouldn’t attract much interest from buyers, as it did with me, but its significance for historians and the typosphere prevented an easy disposal or a place in my parts section.

So finally, after years of pushing it aside, I started again with dismantling it and searching for problems with the escapement. Now, a few months later, tired of it occupying precious space on my bench, I undertook a marathon to bring it back to shape, where it now finally shows its potential.

It was a long journey with this rounded flagship, but I am convinced now that it was worth it.
There are still some small problems left, such as the ribbon vibrator and the incapability of the tab-set, but I will come back to that in the joy of a beautiful piece of typewriter ingenuity.
