1960 Olivetti Lettera 22 Serial # 822889 1960 Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter, Serial # 822889 Suzanne LaPierre's 1960 Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter. 2025-03-20 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Suzanne LaPierre: 1960 Olivetti Lettera 22 Serial # 822889 I purchased this Lettera 22 from the original owner, who had bought it from Easton Typewriter Company to take to college with her at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. The owner was still living in Easton, PA, when I bought this from her (including the original case and manual), so I imagine it may never have left PA until I brought it home to VA! I can tell this typer was well loved, as the paint has worn off from years of probably being carried around campus and used for every assignment! I still need to clean it, so please excuse the dust.

I am a librarian, artist, writer, and co-author of the book Desegregation in Northern Virginia Libraries (The History Press, 2023). If I'm working on a book or article for publication, I'm on a computer. However, I use my typewriters to create poems, type-doodles, art, and to write snail mail letters. I find the tactile nature of typing on a manual machine soothing and joyful. Each typewriter seems to have a soul and a story. Currently my collection is centered around midcentury models.
