Description:
I had this Underwood Leader for many years before I finally sold it. Honestly, I never really enjoyed using it. It was probably one of THE LOUDEST typewriters I have ever had or experienced (its either tied or ahead of the only electric typewriter I had, a Smith Corona 2200).
It was also missing (I think) the bell mechanism and the line lock didn't work.
But it did work, had a nice keyboard feel, and it was in amazing cosmetic condition.
I think that it was from 1953, but cannot be sure.

I started collecting typewriters several years ago and it started with a late 1960s Smith-Corona Sterling portable that I got as a gift.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Leader on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Leader By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
