Description:
Ohio antique mall purchase with strange fabric case--not like the usual ones. I don't see this model (Quiet-Riter Ten) on the pull-down menu. The 11 has a date of 1958 so maybe 1957? I also don't see the prefix of "QN" The ribbon was faded so I used carbon paper. The machine was hung up--carriage release wouldn't move, keys not coming to the striking point so I pressed the tab lever and the margin release and it finally released so I could do a typeface specimen. This smooth grey/gray metal reminds me of the Army typewriters. It's interesting how the metal seems to be rounded and covers lots of the mechanisms--same thing on the underside.

Changed my collecting priorities to portables except the Olympia SG3 with the cyrillic keyboard and my Underwood No. 5--those beasts are too heavy. Sold my earlier typewriters to a friend. I had too many. I use carbon paper for typefaces when the machines have faint ribbons. I take photos with my Canon Powershot SX50HS (50x optical zoom and macro settings). I find it difficult doing typeface specimens since I use a Corsair K70 RGB gaming keyboard plugged into my 15-in Macbook. I got it solely for the deep key travel. I have fun hunting machines in antique malls in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Quiet-Riter Ten on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Quiet-Riter Ten By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
