Description:
This was one of my earlier purchases and still one of my best. The Premier is basically a Quiet-Riter, except with silver paint instead of the QR's standard flat gray. They were made in Scotland (labeled as Great Britain) during the 1950s to early 1960s, but curiously this machine has a U.S. dollar sign instead of Pounds Sterling. These are rare to find in the U.S. and I don't see them on eBay in the UK whenever I look.
The key action is very, very smooth and light to the touch. It is adjusted perfectly as far as the typeslugs hitting the paper, creating a clear, easy-to-read impression. The platen on mine is in surprisingly good shape, which also helps.
Typing on this machine is like putting on your favorite pair of comfy shoes - it has a natural and relaxed feel. I can type half a dozen pages before I know it. The typeface is also easy to read, which makes it a joy to proofread and edit. I don't see myself selling it any time soon.
