1958 Remington Letter-Riter Serial # ELR402118 1958 Remington Letter-Riter typewriter, Serial # ELR402118 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1958 Remington Letter-Riter typewriter. 2018-05-10 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1958 Remington Letter-Riter Serial # ELR402118 This Remington waited for me on a table at the local Value Village for $19.99+tax CAD. And I am very happy to have bought it. Having owned an Office-Riter in the past, I can say that I always enjoy these mid-century Remington portables, even though in general Remington portables never spoke to me all that much. This Letter-Riter has been a local machine for most, if not all of it's life. Carbon-copies that were included with the machine, funnily enough, have revealed quite a bit about the life of the owner in the 1970's. Such as that he bought a suite at the Seattle J.C. Penney in March of 1976 which was mismatched in color, that he worked for the local pulp-mill as council, and that he lived in the downtown area. The machine also came with the original owner's manual as well as a notepad for a Vancouver, B.C. seedy hotel which 10 years ago was turned into a housing unit. The case is also in very good condition. However, the strap that holds the contents flap up has ripped so I put some Velcro in to make it work. The machine has minor corrosion in the back, but really nothing worth speaking of, and this is also regarding other wear and tear. This machine has been well cared for and well used. A nice survivor and example of durability and quality. I intend to keep this machine for a while and use it as I truly enjoy the typing-experience this machine offers.
