Description:
This Erika 11 in Metallgrün (though almost gray, imho) has the beautiful contrasting black keys. This maschine is that began my love for the Erika, what with both compact beauty and (how do you say flotten Spielweise?) snappy action??? I contend, however, that aesthetics flatten out on Erika after the 11, if mechanics remain good.
For years used I the Groma Kolibri, but was not satisfied ever the smoothness of the action, but have found the Erikas a good substitute; in fact, the flattest I can go and be satisfied that is a smooth, crisp typing maschine.
N.b. The screws visible on the exterior body on this Maschine must be snugly secure kept. If the carriage unexpectedly and suddenly skipping to begin, or a certain hammer or two faltering, verifying these must be just the trick.

Ja, I am happy a collector of Schreibmaschine to be, und to hunt them down like dogs for my collection to have. My erste Schreibmachine I have fondly remembered was an old American Royal portable -- 1930s? How I got this one, where it came from, I cannot recall -- und so on a QWERTY to type learnt. Happily, most of my Maschinen now have the QWERTZ, und so for the deutsche Maschinen mostly I look, though I do not despise the qualität-built amerikanischer Maschinen.
I not only am collecting, but I use each one in my epistolary endeavors. If the revolution is being typwritten, then we must be about our business typing.
Ich liebe meine Frau; ich liebe meinen Hund; ich liebe eine Erika. Warum? Ich liebe Worte, Qualität, und Präzision!
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Erika 11 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Erika Serial Number page and the Erika 11 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
