1957 Eaton's (Smith-Corona) De Luxe Serial # 5CE357676 1957 Eaton's (Smith-Corona) De Luxe typewriter, Serial # 5CE357676 Julian Zadorozny's 1957 Eaton's (Smith-Corona) De Luxe typewriter. 2025-06-17 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Julian Zadorozny: 1957 Eaton's (Smith-Corona) De Luxe Serial # 5CE357676 I discovered this 1957 Eaton’s Smith Corona De Luxe on MaxSold, an online auction house. I swore I would never purchase another typewriter from this method of hunting after a previous debacle. However, on a lark, I dropped a max bid of $20. I never thought I would win, but I did for the low price of CAD 17.00. This poor machine is in a terrible state.

A rebadged Smith Corona Clipper sold for the Eaton’s Department Store here in Toronto. On looking through the Typewriter Database, I figured out the serial number: 5C is the Series. E is Easton’s (I’m guessing) and the next series of numbers are the identifier of the year of manufacture.

Also, if this is a Clipper how does it have a tabulator, as this was supposed to be a base model? Maybe this is a Sterling instead, as it looks much like my 1956 Sterling. Anyway, I’ve decided to sell, and hopefully someone will find use for this typer. You’ll notice the misalignment for each line of keys. I added all of my attempts at typing a true example of each key. The 'I' key has no linkage, so there is no imprint of that slug. So much neglect.

I purchased my first typewriter in 2000: Brother Pro-Line 707 built in 1969.
I wrote eight hours a day, seven days a week on that tiny machine. I wrote my first unpublished novel and hundreds of short stories on the Brother.
In 2020 I decided to purchase my second typewriter. At ten and counting, I still use and collect these amazing tools for writing.
