Description:
This typer has passed through many hands, bouncing around the state of Virginia. It lived for a while at the Massad House Hotel in Richmond, VA. It came with some writings that referred to Jackson Ward in Richmond and stated, "this lonely typewriter found me," dated 2019. When the hotel was sold and cleaned out, the former owner gave it to his friend, Laurie Paige, who had once been the PR person for Katherine Graham at The Washington Post. She lives in Fredericksburg, VA. I bought it from Laurie for $20- it had one bent typebar shaped like a golf club! Luckily, I was able to bend back into place without issue. Otherwise, it's in pretty good shape considering its adventures.

I am a librarian, artist, writer, and co-author of the book Desegregation in Northern Virginia Libraries (The History Press, 2023). I am a columnist on the topic of library technology. If I'm working on a book or an article, I'm at the computer. However, I use my typewriters to make poems, type-doodles, art, and to write snail mail letters. Currently my collection is centered around midcentury models.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Skyriter on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Skyriter By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
