Description:
One Remington Quiet-Riter in Salmon.
Pica 134 typeface and so marked on the type slugs. So, 10 pitch and 6 LPI.
Initially I did not like the feel of this machine and there are still certain aspects of the design (such as getting the platen out) that I don't really care for, but after cleaning, it had a different, much better feel for it and i really started to take to it. The only thing that continuously gets me is the gap between the "Z" and the left-hand shift key. I keep putting my finger in that gap. That, and the fact that the carriage release is basically where the paper release ought to be and the paper release is on the side. So you have to get used to that. One drawback of this machine is that the plastic caps on the levers can come off very easily, so you have to be careful when you're working on it so you don't knock them off and lose them. This one is still missing the cap for the ratchet release. One thing to note is that there isn't a great deal of adjustment range in the touch control and that can be a problem for a novice. I happen to like a harder key touch, so this works for me.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Quiet-Riter on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Quiet-Riter By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
