Description:
Database says it's a '55 model, but the warranty card states it was sold in January 1958. It's an interesting statement about the supply and demand component of typewriter manufacturing.
This Underwood was a memorable buy. That its design and colours are appealing is undeniable, but it was the seller who made this an interesting machine. There was a little haggling about its price, but unexpectedly she was the one insisting that I pay less for the typewriter than she had asked for in her ad while I kept trying to raise its price.
I later found inside its travel case a typed page from the seller's daughter (she described herself as just starting the seventh grade). At the top of the page is her brutally honest assessment of the Underwood: "IM using a TY peWrer it sucks". The De Luxe may not have been the best portable of the era, but I think most will agree that her review was a little harsh.
