1955 Olivetti Lettera 22 Serial # 144788 1955 Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter, Serial # 144788 Carl Clark's 1955 Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter. 2018-01-28 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Carl Clark: 1955 Olivetti Lettera 22 Serial # 144788 This Lettera 22 was an eBay purchase, and arrived in sorry shape - the case was a little bent, enough that the space bar wouldn't clear it; the case grommets and feet were shot; and the carrying case zipper was pretty much gone. I managed to disassemble it and get the case back into decent shape (literally back to its true shape), and found some substitute grommets that stopped it from rattling against the frame. A local luggage repair shop fixed the carrying case well enough that I could zip it up and actually use it to carry the typewriter.

The embossed paper table is not original - I acquired another damaged Lettera 22 for parts a while back, and with some hints from Robert Messenger's OzTypewriter blog, adapted it to this one, just because I liked the look. (I'm not that concerned about keeping it perfect - it's a user-grade machine, after all.) That Lettera also donated its case feet.

I will likely tear it down again sometime this summer and give it a more thorough cleaning, but for now it's an enjoyable typer to use, and to look at.
