1954 Erika 11 Serial # 2 011 115 1954 Erika 11 typewriter, Serial # 2 011 115 Erik Bruchez's 1954 Erika 11 typewriter. 2021-12-22 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Erik Bruchez: 1954 Erika 11 Serial # 2 011 115 This is a nice Erika 11 with Swiss-German keyboard.

UPDATE 2021-08-15: This machine was already clean and serviced when I bought it. But I just gave it a quick cleaning, removing and cleaning the base, removing some grease (it seems that this retired typewriter repairman liked grease underneath the carriage), and cleaning the case a little.

This machine types really well, it turns out. It has that stiff feeling I hear is common to Erikas, but it feels rock-solid and the impression on paper is really neat.

The ribbon selector is in a funny position, almost hidden under the top cover to the right.

This machine has beautiful gray crinkle paint in almost perfect condition. It has a vendor tag in the back which says:

AUGUST RAMEL
SCHREIBMASCHINEN
GRETZENBACH (bei Olten)

(Olten being a city in Switzerland.)

2021-12-22: Added typeface sample. I am enjoying this machine more than I initially thought I would! It will be a good candidate for a new platen.

I started collecting my first pre-WW2 standard typewriters in 2017. Since then I have added a few machines to my collection, which now ranges from the 1880s to the 1980s. As of 2024, I have more big standard (desktop) typewriters than portables, a few standard electrics, and some unusual machines like Varitypers, uncommon IBM machines, and more. I am not a pro restorer, but I have restored a few of my machines beyond simple cleaning.
