1953 Remington Super-Riter Serial # SJ216499 1953 Remington Super-Riter typewriter, Serial # SJ216499 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 1953 Remington Super-Riter typewriter. 2022-09-03 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 1953 Remington Super-Riter Serial # SJ216499 A good typewriter in very bad shape.

Don't be deceived by the apparent good looks of this... I should've thunk before buying this big guy. Looks good, works really bad. This is an UK unit, with the compulsory overabundance of fractions on the keyboard. The touch feels good, it's surprisingly clean but two details: the carriage doesn't move freely (something blocks it at the 2/3 section) and the ribbon spools don't advance, hence the horrible typeface sample. I suspect I can't fix this on my own, and that puts this machine on standby.

I like how easily accessible are the feed rollers. In this case they're pristine, but if I needed to repair them it would be a piece of cake.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
