Description:
This typer has a mysterious background! It was found hidden behind a wall in a secret room of a 1957 house that had belonged to a retired FBI agent. He was the original owner of the house. The new owners knocked down a wall to do renovations and found it there in 2025. They listed it on Facebook Marketplace ($30 OBO) with a video of where it was found. When I asked whether it worked and gave some tips on how to move the carriage that seemed to be stuck, they said: "just take it for free." So I did. I have cleaned it up and all the parts seem to work except for a detached typebar for the +/- key. The carriage is slow to shift between upper case and lower case, though, which I am still investigating. The typeface sample is made with the ancient ribbon found in the machine - new ribbon on order!

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Super-Riter on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Super-Riter By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
