Description:
When I told my mother there is a typewriter brand with her name (Erika) she asked me if I could find a nice Erika for her. By chance I came across this lovely model 8. All the model 8 pictures I have seen so far are glossy black. this one isn't: it has a kaki crinkle finish. A very cool typewriter. It had one issue: the carriage was stuck. It wasn't the margins or the carriage lock, but one of the tabulator pins was jammed against the "tabulator reset triangle" in the back. It took me some time to find and solve that issue. And a bent metal dentist toothpick. But so worth it. this thing types really nice and snappy. She'll have to give this one back to me if she gets bored with it.
22-oct-2021: Now in possession of my mother, who already mentioned she's having a blast with it =)

I fell into the typewriter rabbit hole due to nostalgia: I used to have a massive Olympia SG1 when I was a kid. It formed my typing habits, which is why I am called a "furious typer" by my coworkers. Came across the r/typewriters page on Reddit which rekindled my love for these wonderful machines. Lets just hope I don't start pushing screens off my desk when I reach the end of a line...
I also have a modest Youtube channel where I document the progress of my typewriter journey: https://www.youtube.com/@Slug_Life
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Erika 8 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Erika Serial Number page and the Erika 8 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
