Description:
Purchased on Facebook Marketplace and picked up in person, Spring 2023 for $120. Cleaned and upgraded to silk ribbon, early summer 2023 for use as current daily driver at home and traveling. Replaced the typebar basket felt as existing lifted bars above top of typewriter. Intend to replace again as soon as industrial felt can be purchased for similar projects. Paint only shows minor marring, and all badging is extant and clean. No service history was included with the purchase. Platen is hard, but with backing sheet, typing is quick and quiet (comparatively). Type is straight - Variance seems largely from typing technique. Vestigial return arm did not function correctly at initial purchase; would not forward single space w/out physical manipulation of catch mechanism. After removal and conditioning of platen and feed rollers, the reassembled return seems to function perfectly.

Collector and lover of typewriters, my goal is to be able to role between writing conventions and workshops and host type-ins, and maybe connect more writers with machines that speak to them and their needs. I'm digging my hands into repair, with my first task being a Royal w/ magic tabbing that a friend asked me to look at for them.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Skyriter on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Skyriter By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
