Description:
2026-02-14 Update: Added photos to show the foundry marks on the type slugs for the Elite ("T/S E") typeface. Also added a red/black typing sample for the first time. Added some detail photos of the deals on the back, and for the touch control setting, which are in somewhat better shape than on my KMM (linked gallery).
2025-11-16 Original Gallery Creation: This Royal KMG was a U. S. Navy asset at one time, and still bears the brass asset tag plate. It has Elite typeface. I acquired it on eBay on April 6, 2007. The bid price was $19.99 and, with shipping, the total cost to me was $46.74. I had the platen and feed-rollers re-surfaced by Ames Supply Co. in December of 2007. I purchased a new set of factory-correct feet from Tony Casillo's business, TTS Business Products, in February of 2025, about a month before he closed the business. I had a general cleaning and lubrication service performed by New England Typewriter, Merrimack, NH, in July of 2025.

My interest in typewriters started in 1997, when I was in graduate school at the University of Georgia. I purchased and read Darryl Rehr's book, joined ETC, and started reaching out to known collectors. I had several email interchanges with Richard Polt dating from that period. I also bought some of my first machines from Bob Aubert, and visited him at his home twice. After marriage and relocation to New England, I continued visiting antique shops and eBay, until other priorities put my typewriter hobby on hiatus around 2008. I still have my collection of around 57 machines, and now I have a renewed interest in getting some of them in good working and cosmetic order.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal KMG on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal KMG By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
