Description:
This is my first (and only) Olivetti. It's the unusual keyboard layout that caught my attention. After some research and information from Guy@typewriter.be it appears to be a Belgium layout that was invented by Alfred Valley of Belgium. The "belgian keyboard" was initially a result of a government contract, mainly used in the civil service. (Little success with the general population) And you could still come across such keyboards until the early 1950s, especially at customs services, consulates or embassies.

Collecting typewriters was never something I thought I would do. But then a relatives fire damaged Royal Varsity crossed my path and I just couldn't throw it out. A local typewriter repair shop said it was too far gone to fix, and I thought to myself "well, then I can feel free to try and repair it." So, I started researching typewriters and caught the bug! I enjoy tinkering with them and getting them to work again. My husband recently asked me what I was going to do with all the typewriters and I replied I don't know. For now I am just going to enjoy learning about them, working on them and using them.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olivetti Lettera 22 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olivetti Serial Number page and the Olivetti Lettera 22 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
