This is a really cool and pretty rare machine I think. I had never seen one and thanks to this site was able to learn a little bit about it. It types just like most Quiet Riters I have used, stiff but requiring a lot less pressure than you think and printing very clearly. I'm not in love with the touch, but once I get used to it this thing is a huge pleasure to type on. I have gotten rid of my Quiet Riter and this machine has taken its place.
And this machine was almost destroyed. I used to sell office supplies and one of the clients I pursued was a metal recycling yard. I asked if they ever got typewriters and they said "sometimes". More than a year passed and finally I got a call. They said it was a Remington and I could have it for $20 or it was going to be scrapped. I expected the worst thinking I might steal some parts off a trash machine and give them $5 and let them recycle the rest.
But the machine was in excellent condition! It was upside down in the case and there is a lot of scratching on the "chin" under the keyboard. That bottom part of the frame was also cracked but I Krazy Glued it back together and it's fine. It even had a decent ribbon installed which I replaced anyway. Very little cleaning was required and it works like a charm!
Why anyone would throw this away is lost on me. I think it is extremely attractive and a great typer. You would think someone would at the very least list it on craigslist. Well, I'm glad they didn't I guess because it is mine now. If I hadn't left my card there this machine would sadly have been destroyed. Rare or not it is certainly worth $20.
