1948 Remington KMC Serial # JT1354765 1948 Remington KMC typewriter, Serial # JT1354765 Kevin Stallaert's 1948 Remington KMC typewriter. 2022-08-23 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kevin Stallaert: 1948 Remington KMC Serial # JT1354765 I got this machine not long after I had required my parts machine. I didn't know it was a parts machine before I had found this one. Although it had some issues (quite a few screws missing, KMC system not functional for the right margin, fully rusted papaer shield, lots of rust in other spots too), I really wanted to get this machine back to working condition. I took a while, but now this heavy machine is typing once more. No retirement for this office machine!

Just like Richard Polt's machine, this typewriter has a decimal tabulator and the serial number starts with the prefix "JT" instead of the regular versions "J".

Under the hood. The dead key is shaped in such a way that the accents appear over the last typed letter. Which is different from most typebar machines I have used so far (usually it's typing the dead key first, followed by the character where the accent should be placed on).

I fell into the typewriter rabbit hole due to nostalgia: I used to have a massive Olympia SG1 when I was a kid. It formed my typing habits, which is why I am called a "furious typer" by my coworkers. Came across the r/typewriters page on Reddit which rekindled my love for these wonderful machines. Lets just hope I don't start pushing screens off my desk when I reach the end of a line...

I also have a modest Youtube channel where I document the progress of my typewriter journey: https://www.youtube.com/@Slug_Life

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington KMC on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington KMC By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
