1947 Royal KMM Serial # KMM-3286539 1947 Royal KMM typewriter, Serial # KMM-3286539 Randall Lyon's 1947 Royal KMM typewriter. 2026-08-22 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Randall Lyon: 1947 Royal KMM Serial # KMM-3286539 Number 12 and my third Royal standard: a 1947 KMM in pica. I was not looking for this particular model; I have 2 HHEs already and I prefer elite over pica, but when I saw it, I knew she was coming home. Purchased 8/22/2026 in VT from the daughter of the original owner.

Lots of dirt and cobwebs, but only a bit of rust on the chrome and the keys didn't stick. I gave her a good cleaning with air and a towel before getting into the nooks and crannies. A thin coat of oil really made the paint pop.
Things I did:
1. Covered platen with shrink wrap. Not sure I am happy with it, but it can stay for now.
2. Formed lower roller on ribbon reversal mechanism so it would switch correctly.
3. Replaced ribbon spools with some NOS metal ones. It had plastic ones, but the lever was getting stuck in one of them.
4. Formed tab bar at back; it wasn't lined up.
5. Cleaned and lubricated bell area.
6. Cleaned and lubricated tab mechanism.
7. Cleaned out slugs.
8. Tightened main spring to alleviate piling.

Future problems for someone else:
1. Shift key has a broken tab on the bezel and it is a little loose.
2. Some paint damage esp. front lower.

Smooth typer and very sharp looking in black and chrome.
