1947 Remington KMC Serial # J1068740 1947 Remington KMC typewriter, Serial # J1068740 Kevin Stallaert's 1947 Remington KMC typewriter. 2022-08-23 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kevin Stallaert: 1947 Remington KMC Serial # J1068740 Spotted on a local ad site. Seller was close to me, so I snatched it up. He said it had belonged to his grandfather. It has some serious paint damage. The carriage can be moved freely without depressing the carriage release, so I guess some springs are detached. I can't seem to find the margin settings. KMC buttons don't do anything. Spotted some loose springs in the bottom of the machine. The keys have seen better days as well, and the plating on some of the levers is damaged. This machine weighs a lot. I hope to get it fixed. I was able to type with it (left impressions on the paper at least), and I don't know if it is the cork platen or the machine mechanism, but it is a very quiet machine.

I fell into the typewriter rabbit hole due to nostalgia: I used to have a massive Olympia SG1 when I was a kid. It formed my typing habits, which is why I am called a "furious typer" by my coworkers. Came across the r/typewriters page on Reddit which rekindled my love for these wonderful machines. Lets just hope I don't start pushing screens off my desk when I reach the end of a line...

I also have a modest Youtube channel where I document the progress of my typewriter journey: https://www.youtube.com/@Slug_Life

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington KMC on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington KMC By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
