Description:
This machine is one of three old standards that have come out of hiding after many years, having been donated to me by friends who didn't know what else to do with them. I'm posting these as before shots--the three will be my first major cleaning and oiling solo project. I hope to have updated pics soon. - See more at: http://typewriterdatabase.com/1913-underwood-5.5212.typewriter#sthash.n2VH8CS3.dpuf

I started collecting typewriters in 1996 when my employer at an old newsstand in Kalamazoo, MI gave me her mother's Underwood Elliot Fisher Noiseless; I love these machines and learning how to repair and maintain them. The Noiseless was the medium for a zine I wrote through the nineties and into the oughts, and my nine-year-old daughter now types regularly.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington 17 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington 17 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
