Description:
Here's an International/IBM Electromatic from 1946 from the Bob Aubert collection of Delran, NJ. This one was SO CLOSE to being fully functional. I was able to get it cleaned and largely working and typing. At some point, I made the mistake of hitting the carriage-return button, which is exceptionally violent in these machines. The carriage flew back to the left, apparently jamming some sort of knockout toggle, which has itself apparently gotten stuck. Frustrated, I donated this one to the good folks at Philly Typewriter, given their expertise on IBM machines, including the gorgeous, fully functional Electromatic in their showroom. (August, 2023).

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Electromatic on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Electromatic By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
