1945 Underwood S Serial # 14-5776070 1945 Underwood S typewriter, Serial # 14-5776070 Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters's 1945 Underwood S typewriter. 2018-03-06 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Plante and Doole-Fisher Typewriters: 1945 Underwood S Serial # 14-5776070 I received this typewriter as a donation from a friend about a year ago, but have not had the opportunity to get into it yet. It is a rather common Underwood S, and the reason you still see these so often is because they are very well build. This particular typewriter was in rough shape when I got it, and it still carries some of the patina that I have been unable to remove. The machine, however, as it is sits now, works absolutely perfect, which is rather surprising considering it was a rust-bucket when I got it. It isn't perfect cosmetically by far. But this old thing will work once again, which is more than was expected by many. I treated the keys with vinegar and that worked great. The automatic ribbon reverse mechanism was faulty and took a long time to fix, but I seem to have tweaked it correctly right now. Besides that I also had to do repairs to the shift, color-selector, and back-space. The space-bar was cracked in two which I have also repaired with glue and paint. Looks really good. Only a small area gives way it's repair. One of the feet was missing, and I have created a temporary solution. I've include some photographs of the typewriter before I repaired it.
