1945 Remington Portable 5 Serial # B1238250 1945 Remington Portable 5 typewriter, Serial # B1238250 Patrick Clawson's 1945 Remington Portable 5 typewriter. 2018-08-01 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Patrick Clawson: 1945 Remington Portable 5 Serial # B1238250 This one, I call the Red Remington to distinguish it from my other Model 5. When purchased, it was in excellent mechanical condition, but the paint was scratched and flaked. So, it got a makeover.

Something about the action doesn't feel right, to me. My wife prefers it, though, so we don't have to fight over who gets to use which machine.

Like my Remington-Rand DeLuxe 5, this one still has its flip-down back cover. Someday, I may even get around to replacing the decals and highlighting the lettering on the scales.

This machine has one, irritating flaw: the spool covers are ever so slightly warped. They have to be removed before typing, or the ribbon can't advance, which trips up the mechanism. Thankfully, the original spools are kind of cute.

College library staff (careful not to call myself a librarian without an MLS) with frequently frustrated literary ambitions. Nonetheless, I'll have the machines, if ever I break my writers' block.
