Description:
Ugh. This Baby. I got this Hermes Baby from a junk dealer in Gloucester City, New Jersey, in May of 2021, and immediately regretted it. It had this overpowering stench that was tough to describe: a pungent, chemical aroma I've never smelled before. I left it outside the house to air out for a few days. I tried cleaners, detergents, baking-powder treatments, vinegar... nothing could stop it. Eventually I disassembled it and tore out all of the cloth, felt, and sound-dampening material, eventually replacing it with red-and-black plaid designs, which largely--though not completely--got rid of the aroma. Repainted key legends, de-rusted it, repaired the missing drawband and the broken mainspring, and eventually got it working again. The whole thing really turned me off of Hermes Babies.
