Description:
I got this one largely because the one I had bought previously turned out to be in such bad shape that I felt I had to strip the paint, but I still wanted a stock Remette in the collection. However, I didn't realize how different the Remette was from one year to the next. My original one was from 1939 and this is from 1940, but they have different style keyboards (black painted rims on the keys on this one compared to shiny silver on the other, and a much thicker spacebar on this one as well). The typeface used on the decals is different, and this one is called "Remette" while the previous one was a "Rem-ette"). The black rims on the keys definitely make it look different, although on mine a fair amount of the paint has worn or chipped off.
These machines were designed at the tail end of the Great Depression and definitely had cost in mind. The way the body panels are just sheet metal screwed together, not to mention the missing features like tabs or even a bell make them seem kind of low quality IMO.

I'm relatively new to typewriter collecting, but am rapidly making up for lost time...
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Remette on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Remette By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
