1940 Remington Deluxe Model 5 Serial # B1123690 1940 Remington Deluxe Model 5 typewriter, Serial # B1123690 Evan Bezeredi's 1940 Remington Deluxe Model 5 typewriter. 2024-02-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Evan Bezeredi: 1940 Remington Deluxe Model 5 Serial # B1123690 This is, what I assume to be, a 1940 Remington Deluxe Model 5. It has a Deluxe Model 5 serial number but no indications on the body that it is, in fact, "deluxe". Though, this is quite early on in production.

The Remington Rand decal on the back of the body is fairly worn while the Model 5 decal on the front is only slightly worn. The body is in excellent shape with a few, minor nicks on the front and back and a small spot of surface rust on base of the arm of the 9 key (which I'm sure can be treated). This machine is complete with original ribbon spools, spool covers, and case. Ribbon covers have to be removed for the ribbon to advance.

The automatic spacing is a little less than to be desired, but that could just be my typing style/speed as typing slowly yields perfect spacing between characters.

Types 10 characters to the inch.

I work with modern technology during the week while repairing and rejuvenating antiquated technology on the weekend! I'm a small time collector that's more interested in servicing and repairing typewriters than collecting them.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Deluxe Model 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Deluxe Model 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
