Description:
If this is a Leader, it must be a Student Leader---it is a very budget design. No Right Margin, no Margin Release (of course) and no End-Of-Line Lock, no Bell, no Tabs, no ability to handle Two-Color ribbons, no Automatic Ribbon Reverse, no folding Paper Support. Nice wooden carrying case though.
Although it is darn cute, this particular example is pretty worn out: pock-marked platen, flakey escapement, ribbon advance doesnât work.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood Leader on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood Leader By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
