Description:
Really nice, early example of a Standard. Gold decals have been washed to silver but no major problems with the body other than a faint carriage return rub line, which is almost inevitable after 80+ years. This machine exists in the odd Up to X gap between 1938 and 1939, so I went with 1939. Includes a lovely dealer service sticker nestled into the right shift button -- Standard Machine Service. Appropriate for a Standard, no? Formerly located in Pittsburgh with a neat Atlantic phone number.
Love this machine. Pica. types well. Still some give in the platen.

A lover of the written word, I was bitten by the typewriter bug at the beginning of 2019 when I embarked on a Joyful Odyssey to track down a vintage Olympia SM 7/8/9, (I didn't know the model number at the time) that my mother had owned and which I had used to type my college applications in the late 1980's. I have acquired quite a number since, and have enjoyed learning about the history, mechanics, and true variety of these machines.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Standard on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Standard By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
